International Academy of English Attendance Policy
International Academy of English (IAE) adheres to a strict attendance policy for all students enrolled with an I-20 Student Eligibility Form.
Students must MAINTAIN 70% attendance in the topic and core classes
Students who miss more than four days in any one-month period may lose their I-20 Student Eligibility Form issued by IAE. This may lead to additional legal problems for the student while in the U.S.
A student’s attendance must be at least 70% to transfer out of IAE to another school, receive a certificate, or go on scheduled breaks.
Students who do not attend class for more then eight consecutive days will be completed or terminated dependent on the circumstance for not attending.
Students who do not attend class for more than eight consecutive school days without notifying the school or being eligible for break, will be completed or terminated.
If IAE terminates a student’s eligibility, the student must apply for reinstatement through USCIS.
Students will be given a written warning if they fall below 70% attendance during any 4 week -month period. Any infraction will result in the student being terminated and categorized “out of status” when on a written warning.
IAE reserves the right to terminate any student’s eligibility due to poor class attendance at anytime. Tuition is non-refundable if a student is terminated.
Students are eligible to take a two-week break from school after being enrolled on a continuous basis for 12 weeks. If enrolled for a 24 weeks continuous period, students are eligible for a 4 week break.
If a student plans to transfer to another school, IAE must receive a transfer form from the new school within 30 days. The student has 60 days from the time of transfer to begin attending the new school. During this 60-day period, the student is not required by law to be enrolled at IAE. However, a students’ attendance must be in good standing in order to be transferred.
When a student completes his studies at IAE and plans to return to his/her country, the student has 60 days from the day of completion to leave the U.S.
Students MUST notify IAE when they will be on break, traveling, transferring to another school, leaving the country, or if they are going to miss class for any reason for more than 1 week. IAE will terminate all records after 30 days if a student does not notify IAE otherwise.
If student fails to inform IAE Administration (not a teacher) when taking a break or traveling, there will be a $50.00 re-booking fee.
Tuition is due on 4th Thursday of their designated payment schedule. If a student’s tuition is not received by this Thursday deadline a 10% fee will be added to the tuition.
Teachers do not have the authority to make exceptions regarding student attendance. Please do not ask teachers for special treatment in order to fit your schedule. If you have any concerns regarding these policies, please speak with the Director of Student Services. *All cases of termination will be evaluated on an individual basis.*
Record Keeping Policy
International Academy of English keeps an electronic record of each student’s personal information and transcript from the time the student first registered with the school along with photocopies of student information (passport visa page, photo ID page, and Form I-94, financial certification, enrollment agreement, and Form I-20) on an ongoing basis. Additionally, IAE keeps hard copies of student placement test, rosters, and Individual Student Reports on an ongoing basis.
The student’s electronic or hardcopy data is accessible only to authorized school personnel unless the student requests in writing for the release of his/her information to a person or an entity.
The student has a right to challenge in writing his/her grade and/or attendance records that are less than 45 days old. The age of the record will be determined based on the date such challenge letter was received by the administration office. The student’s grade and/or attendance record - 10 or fewer days old will be investigated relying on your instructor’s recollection and the hardcopies kept. Any disputed record more than 10 days old but less than 45 days old will rely solely on the hardcopies kept by the school. IAE endeavors in good faith to be 100% accurate in all of its recordkeeping.
